Job Description


Lead 2nd Shift Operations
  1. Assist Production Manager in scheduling production in accordance with sales orders to meet customer requirements.  Schedule may include first and second shift operations.
    1. Compile job packets for production floor.
    2. Issue change, cancellation and rush orders
  2. Ensure safety in the plant at all times and at every operation.
  3. Operate production and manage production personnel at high levels of productivity and efficiency.
    1. Lead employees to carry out assigned tasks
    2. Develop and coach employees to higher levels of performance
    3. Analyze and problem solve day to day issues on the production floor.
    4. Lead production team meetings
    5. Work Saturday overtime as required.  
    6. Open plant for startup in the morning may be required.
  4. Train personnel in various production processes.
  5. Coordinate procurement of materials and supplies required with Supply Chain Team.
  6. Ensure proper inventory control including performing cycle counting materials
  7. Develop metrics for monitoring departmental performance.
  8. Ensure the highest level of quality of every product produced.
  9. Schedule shipment of completed orders.
  10. Coordinate with Sales for the timely production and shipment of customer orders.
  11. Schedule maintenance and repair of equipment in a timely manner.
  12. Conduct production time studies.
  13. Utilize manufacturing software.
  14. Create job packets and assign work orders to production.
  15. Staff the operation with appropriate headcount and talent, and provide training and coaching as required.
  16. Collaborate with Production Manager & Sales Manager to create New Products based on customer input.  
  17. Duties may include:
    1. Assist in developing new products and enhance current products
    2. Create prototypes of new product ideas
    3. May require travel to customer site
    4. Evaluate manufacturability of new products
  18. Provide Production leadership/management including assisting Production Manager in long range production planning, creating and achieving annual production objectives, yearly business planning/budgeting, and establishment of projects and initiatives to achieve Seals & Shelter production objectives.
  19. Track, document, and report production output and shipments daily.
  20. Assist Production Manager as requested to create product builds and document cost.
  21. Assist Production Manager on all aspects of costing including:
  22. Determine product cost using costed bill of materials.
  23. Monitor and improve purchasing of materials through competitive pricing for quality materials.
  24. Monitor costs and establish and implement plans for the continuous improvement of buy practices in an effort to reduce the inventory without affecting the ability to serve our customers. 
  25. Promote and maintain a culture and environment of continuous improvement, based on comprehensive development and execution of Lean business practices. 
    1. Establish growth/improvement goals and objectives, along with all relevant key performance indicators. 
    2. Ensure follow-through on action planning to meet established goals. 
  26. Work closely with the Production Manager and other functional groups (HR, Sales, Finance, Engineering) to achieve overall business objectives.  
  27. Strong focus on moral leadership, constructive competitiveness, self/employee development, and accountability.
  28. Perform other duties as assigned.
