Job Summary

The Mechanical Assembler is a hands-on position responsible for assembling mechanical components and systems in accordance with prints, sales orders, and established production schedules. This role involves following detailed instructions to ensure accurate, high-quality builds and operations throughout the manufacturing process. The individual in this position will work closely with team members to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently, within safety guidelines, and on time.


Essential Functions

  • Assembly and Operations:

    • Perform mechanical assembly tasks using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and machines.
    • Read and interpret operation sheets, blueprints, wire lists, shop travelers, rework and repair directives, and other written/verbal instructions to accurately complete each task.
    • Assemble components or subassemblies to specification, ensuring correct alignment, fit, and function.
  • Material Handling and Scheduling:

    • Generate, maintain, and track materials pulls, ensuring all required parts and materials are available for assembly.
    • Collaborate with other team members to ensure assembly schedules are met and production timelines are adhered to.
    • Move materials, equipment, and paperwork through the production process, maintaining appropriate status records for tracking.
  • Quality and Safety Standards:

    • Ensure that all assemblies meet quality standards and are free from defects by performing in-process inspections and testing when necessary.
    • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines, using personal protective equipment (PPE) when required, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
    • Troubleshoot and repair assemblies or components as needed to meet required performance specifications.
  • Work Environment and Team Collaboration:

    • Contribute to a positive and productive work environment by adhering to company policies and collaborating with team members to resolve issues and meet production goals.
    • Assist with inventory control by maintaining accurate records of parts used, completed assemblies, and material needs.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives, offering suggestions and feedback for process enhancements.
  • Physical Demands:

    • Perform tasks that may require lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 50 lbs.
    • Utilize overhead hoists and other material handling equipment to move larger or heavier components.
    • Maintain a strong focus on safety during all assembly and material handling tasks.
  • Documentation and Reporting:

    • Accurately document work completed, including materials used, completed assemblies, and any deviations from standard processes.
    • Assist in maintaining the accuracy of work orders and production schedules, ensuring updates are reflected in real-time.
    • Participate in regular team meetings to discuss progress, issues, and solutions.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Additional technical or vocational training in mechanical systems, electronics, or manufacturing processes.

Experience

  • Required: A minimum of 1 year of experience in a manufacturing assembly or mechanical assembly environment, with demonstrated hands-on experience working with mechanical components, tools, and machinery.
  • Preferred: Experience working with electrical schematics, wiring, or electronic components is a plus.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong Mechanical Aptitude:

    • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and machinery to assemble components accurately.
    • Strong understanding of mechanical assembly processes and the ability to troubleshoot common mechanical issues.
  • Attention to Detail:

    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, operation sheets, and technical drawings to complete tasks accurately.
    • Competence in performing precise measurements using tools such as calipers, micrometers, and rulers.
  • Ability to Follow Procedures:

    • Skilled in following established assembly processes and protocols, ensuring consistent quality and safety standards.
    • Ability to complete tasks according to specified instructions and timelines without supervision.
  • Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting:

    • Strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing assembly or mechanical issues and implementing solutions.
    • Ability to make adjustments to processes when issues arise, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments to coordinate tasks, resolve issues, and meet production goals.
    • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team-oriented environment and contribute positively to group dynamics.
  • Organizational Skills:

    • Strong organizational skills to keep track of multiple assembly tasks, materials, and production schedules.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Forklift Operation (Preferred but not required):

    • Experience operating both stand-up and sit-down forklifts to move materials or components safely.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as required for material handling or assembly tasks.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, which may include exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, and machinery.
  • Comfortable using overhead hoists or other lifting devices as needed.
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, or kneel for extended periods during assembly tasks.
