Job Description

The Coating Assistant supports the setup, operation, and cleanup of industrial coating/painting equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production of coated parts and materials. This is a hands-on role in a manufacturing environment that involves material handling, basic quality checks, and assisting machine operators or painters throughout the shift.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist in the setup, operation, and shutdown of coating or painting lines according to work instructions and safety procedures.

  • Load, unload, and stage raw materials, parts, and finished product; label, package, and palletize items for shipment or next process.

  • Perform basic prep work such as sanding, masking, cleaning, and hanging parts to ensure proper coating coverage and adhesion.

  • Conduct simple in-process inspections (visual checks for coverage, defects, color, and identification) and report issues to the operator or supervisor.

  • Complete basic tests and documentation as directed, including recording production data and material usage when required.

  • Maintain clean and organized work areas; perform routine housekeeping around coating, paint, and material storage areas.

  • Assist with cleaning and basic care of coating equipment, tools, and spray accessories following established procedures.

  • Follow all plant safety rules, use required PPE, and participate in safety and quality initiatives.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

  • Prior experience in manufacturing, coating, painting, or material handling is helpful but not required; on-the-job training provided.

  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn machine operation and basic troubleshooting.

  • Ability to read and follow written work instructions, job tickets, and safety procedures.

  • Comfortable working on your feet, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working in a production environment with noise, fumes, and frequent movement.
