Cell Lead

Summary

This full time, non-exempt position is responsible for assisting the Supervisor or Manager or with the overall day-to-day management of the cell.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following in the absence of the Supervisor or Manager:

  • Ability to work with other department managers or supervisors in a cooperative and collaborative manner to expedite the orders within the department.
  • Ability to independently set up, operate and monitor various Press machines
  • Ability to perform or delegate ongoing quality checks per standard operating procedures for parts produce from various machines to ensure compliance with both established drawings and specifications
  • Ability to make or delegate frequent adjustments and recalibrations to various machines to ensure safe and quality operations
  • Ability to inform Supervisor or Manager of any problems encountered or progress on orders
  • Ability to ensure that the department runs smoothly and efficiently, that all products are created on time according to agree upon delivery dates
  • Ability to train and coach employees to ensure flexibility and responsiveness within the department
  • Ability to coordinate orders from customer service and purchasing for smooth flow of production orders using scheduling and customer demands and inventory as guides
  • Ability to provide performance feedback, both positive and negative, to improve employee skills, abilities and behaviors
  • Ability to participate on corrective actions as required ensuring consistent feedback to all department individuals
  • Ability to identify and communicate to production supervisor or manager outstanding contributions and individual and department conflicts as needed
  • Ability to perform other responsibilities as needed or required
  • Ability to set up furnaces to run grade profiles

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Ability to distribute work and tooling to employees of the department

Ability to come in on weekends and some holidays for furnace tending.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • Four years of high school or vocational school or equivalent is preferred
  • A minimum of 10 years manufacturing experience
  • Ten or more years of experience setting up and operating various machines or the equivalent in education and ability

 

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to read and understand shop orders, SPC charts and blueprints
  • Ability to read and utilize inspection and measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers

 

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as add and subtract and calculate fractions
  • Ability to calculate percentages

 

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Strong general business concepts understanding to make sound business decisions and ensure on-time delivery

Computer Skills

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Visual Manufacturing software and basic skills with Excel.

 

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to understand and utilize technical information
  • Ability to successfully read and utilize and caliper, micrometer, and ruler to check tolerances of work

 

Other Qualifications

  • Previous knowledge of carbon products
  • Previous knowledge of set up experience
  • Proven ability to understand, determine and work with different grades of material.
